PhD position available at Signal Processing Group at the Department of Medical Physics and Acoustics, University of Oldenburg, Germany is seeking to fill the position of a PhD student in the PhD Program "Signals and Cognition". This full-time position is available for initially 3 years, with a monthly stipend amounting to min. 1500 € (net).
The title of the envisaged research project is "Multi-microphone speech enhancement using brain computer interfaces" (SigCog 05). In many speech communication applications, such as hearing aids and teleconferencing systems, the recorded signals consist of a mixture of different speakers and background noise.
Although in the last decades several multi-microphone speech enhancement techniques (e.g. fixed and adaptive beamforming, Multi-Channel Wiener Filter, blind source separation) have been developed, they all rely on pre-defined assumptions about the target speaker. E.g. in hearing aids the target speaker is typically assumed to be in front of the user, whereas in teleconferencing systems it is assumed to be the loudest speaker.
