Job description
Job description:Vaccination against human papillomavirus (HPV) has
recently been added to the Dutch National Immunization Programme. HPV
vaccination aims to reduce cervical cancer, but until now vaccine efficacy has only been demonstrated against short-term intermediateendpoints (persistent infection, precancerous lesions).

Therefore, monitoring the epidemiology of HPV infection is crucial to assess thelong-term effectiveness of the HPV vaccination programme in reducingthe incidence of cervical cancer. The candidate will develop mathematical models that can reproduce the observed patterns of HPVinfection and HPV-related disease.
The models are vital forinterpreting observed changes in the epidemiology of HPV afterintroduction of vaccination. The models should also identifyinformative surrogate endpoints by which the population impact of HPVvaccination can be monitored in the short term. The project willresult in the writing of scientific publications and a dissertation.
