Grade 6: £25,001 – £27,319
Applications are invited for the temporary post of invertebrate ecologist to work on the EC project: “BioBio – Indicators for biodiversity in organic and low-input farming systems” at IBERS, Aberystwyth University. Duties will include:
- Undertaking invertebrate sampling on livestock farms in the Welsh hills;
- Sorting and preservation of target specimens in samples for later species identification, either by laboratory identification of species in at least one taxonomic group (spiders, wild bees or earthworms) or dispatch of specimens to a taxonomic expert; and
- Input and collation of data records into spreadsheets.
Ideal academic qualifications are an Honours degree in an ecological or biological science and an MSc in a related discipline, especially a scheme which offered field sampling.
Evidence of taxonomic competence in at least one of the three target invertebrate groups is desirable but experience in the use of taxonomic keys to identify other groups is essential. Physical fitness and aptitude are essential to undertake the field sampling which will require the carriage of sampling equipment and samples on foot in remote hill country.Lates Scholarships for Reseacher 2010 2011
Excellent organizational, communication and data handling skills are also essential. A current, full UK driving license is essential, evidence of off-road driving training and experience is desirable.

The salary scale is on Grade 6: £25,001 – £27,319 per annum dependent on qualifications and experience.
